Volunteers are Essential

(Volunteers may check the schedule and review other important information by entering the password in the data box to the right.)

Community Calendar:
A printable calendar can be found here. It is updated monthly and as events warrant. If you know of an event that is NOT listed, please call the Barker House (482-7800) and share the information.

Volunteers Needed:
Men and women volunteers are needed. We need docents to help greet visitors and tell them about Penelope Barker, the Barker House, historic attractions throughout Chowan County and the region as well as other Commission projects. We also need help with the maintenance of the House from time to time. No one is ever asked to do anything that they are uncomfortable doing, be it painting shutters, selling books in the gift shop or sharing the stories of our history.

Let us know of your interest in becoming a volunteer and we'll let you know which projects are coming up and what preparations are necessary to maximize the value of your time and effort.

The work of the Commission is never done and is only possible due to the fantastic work of our volunteers. Volunteers do all sorts of important things:
* Serve as docents assisting guest as they visit the Barker House
* Assist guest at events sponsored by the Commission
* Help with maintenance of our buildings
* Brief and guide visitors to the Roanoke River Lighthouse. once the renovations are completed
* Serve on essential committees created by the Commission's Executive Committee to plan and execute fundraising events, host special occasions honoring our donors, work with the renovation and furnishing of the Lighthouse and other key activities.

Contact us at (252) 482-7800 or by email.

Keep up with the restoration and storm repair efforts by visiting the Barker House on Facebook and signing up as a Fan.
